South Milwaukee fourth graders plant trees for Arbor Day

SOUTH MILWAUKEE, Wis. — All South Milwaukee School District fourth graders will have the opportunity to plant trees Friday in celebration of Arbor Day.

New superintendent hired

Angela Woyak, a Rib Lake native who is currently serving as an elementary school principal in Wyoming, has been been chosen as the next superintendent of the Marathon School District.

Business services director resigns at School District of Beloit

BELOIT — Robert Chady, who served as the School District of Beloit’s executive director of business services, has resigned.

Number of students experiencing homelessness climbs in Eau Claire Area School District

EAU CLAIRE (WQOW) - The number of homeless students across the Badger State are trending up. In Eau Claire, more than 300 students are homeless this year.

Several Wisconsin school districts comply with Trump administration’s DEI demands

Despite state education leaders’ opposition, several Wisconsin school districts plan to submit, or are considering submitting, documents to the Trump administration certifying the elimination of diversity, equity and inclusion programs. This week, school boards in Watertown, Kettle Moraine, Johnson Creek, Hartland-Lakeside and Arrowhead held special meetings to discuss the certification.

School district looks to build onsite medical clinic

The Verona Area School District (VASD) is checking off boxes to build an onsite medical clinic for employees and their families. During a Monday, April 21 Board of Education meeting, Deputy Superintendent Chad Wiese and Director of Human Resources Rachelle Hady discussed the possibility of building an onsite health clinic, a benefit that is now available through the district’s new insurance plan. 

Student homelessness continues to rise in Wisconsin, report finds

WISCONSIN — Student homelessness in Wisconsin reached a new high in the 2023-24 school year, according to a new report from the Wisconsin Policy Forum. There were a total of 20,195 students in Wisconsin public schools who were identified as homeless during that year, a 9.1% increase from the previous year. It was also the highest number since 2019.

Rib Lake reduces insurance increase with change

Employees in Rib Lake Schools will see insurance changes in the coming year. At the April 16 meeting, school board members voted to make the switch from Aspirus to Security Health Plan.

New principal hired for Janesville’s Lincoln Elementary School

The School District of Janesville hires a new elementary school leader. The school board approved a district recommendation to hire Rachel Bynum as the next principal at Lincoln Elementary School.

Stratford K-12 approves raises for staff

The Stratford Board of Education voted last Wednesday to approve a 2 percent raise with a 1.5 percent stipend for certified teachers, along with a $2-per-hour raise for support staff The board also increased the hourly pay for paraprofessionals to $17.50, with substitute paraprofessionals to make $16 per hour. The pay rate was lifted to $135 per day for substitute teachers, and to $230 per day for long-term subs.

Edgar K-12 hit with 12.5% insurance hike

The Edgar Board of Education learned last Wednesday that the district will see the highest increase in health insurance costs next year – 12.5 percent – among the six school districts in its insurance consortium.

Sevastopol Students Turn Trash Into Treasure

Sevastopol School welcomed the public to its third-annual Fine Arts Night on April 14. More than 1,151 unique aquatic-themed art pieces were created by 4K through fifth-grade students alone.
